A one page, typed letter signed as President on White House letterhead, to famous oil tycoon, J. Paul Getty, December 5th, 1970. “The book enclosed with this note is a token of my appreciation for the important contribution you have made toward the cause of good government. As you know, I will always be grateful personally to you for the great help you have given to my efforts, and I thought these collected speeches might serve to point out the paths this Administration is taking to achieve the goals all of us are seeking— for our country, for ourselves, and for our children.” Signed with his customary circled initials, as are almost all of his Presidential letters. Nixon had enlisted his good friend Bebe Rebozo to solicit a major contribution from J. Paul Getty. These funds were broken up and placed throughout various organizations to hide their source. Nixon had also visited Getty’s mansion in England.   $850
